Kate Kelly

The name "Kate Kelly" is written on this photo of an attractive young woman taken by the photographer McFadden of Paducah. She is wearing a dress with a ruffled bodice and the large puffed sleeves typical of the 1890's that appears to be white. Because the Opera House, noted on the cabinet card in the photographer's address, burned in 1900 this picture would date to before that year.

Could this be the Kate Kelly born in 1878 to Irish immigrant Michael Kelly and his wife Mary who were recorded in the McCracken County census of 1880? By 1900, Katie was married to James Mulvin with an infant child. James Mulvin died sometime between 1900 and 1910 for in the 1910 census Kate Mulvin, a widow with three small children, was living in the home of her father, Michael Kelly, a locomotive engineer for the railroad.
